Candy writes about her life and work;
"Living, raising a family and working in Maine for 50 years all of which have been here in Southern Aroostook County, I still have not tired of painting the mountains, hills and coast that are Maine.
Painting Mt. Katahdin has always been my love and my must but since we go to the coast every summer to a family cottage and I paint there as well, it became a challenge to show how an artist from the interior, potato country and deeps woods, would portray the shores, waves and rocky cliffs of Maine.
It is the spirit and feel of the nature of Maine that I try to capture on my canvas. I love using oil paints to capture color, light and atmosphere of a scene to show distance in my paintings. To accomplish this I like to paint plein air, standing or sitting outside to experience the nature I am trying to depict on my canvas. it is an amazing feeling trying to paint the living earth onto a canvas and a privilege as well.
I have studied with special artists in the state; like Frank Sullivan, George van Hook, Donald Demers, Marsha Donahue and Olena Babak and still spend time painting with and learning from Frank Sullivan and Olena Babak.
Enjoy the feeling and light I bring to the scene onto my canvas and add your own memories and experiences to it.
