The history of artists in the Katahdin Region is widely known, including Frederick Church and Marsden Hartley, for example. But there are hundreds, possibly thousands, of artists who have sought out this extraordinary and unique landscape since then and they are still coming.
With the opening of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument and the careful stewardship of Baxter State Park, in which ancient Mount Katahdin towers over it all, there is no lack of subject matter to draw the artist. As is often said, the landscape serves the artist here and a stop at North Light Gallery will offer many stunning results of what the trained hand and eye can record here.
Take a piece of a developing history home with you so that you can remember...there is no other place like here.
